El ministerio de Antigüedades egipcio anunció el hallazgo de una antigua necrópolis con momias en perfecto estado, ubicada en la ciudad de Luxor, a orillas del Nilo por arqueólogos egipcios y franceses.
Se cree que corresponde a la última época faraónica (664-332 a.C.) y principios de la era ptolemaica (310-30 a.C.)

Los expertos han identificado una de las tumbas como la de un alto sacerdote llamado Hersa-Essei, y en su interior hay 13 sepulcros, en los que fueron encontradas muchas estatuillas de ushabti, artefactos de pequeña dimensión que acompañaban al difunto y debían servir como sus súbditos en el más allá.

También se halló la momia del sacerdote, decorada con cuentas azules y rojas y hojas de bronce dorado.

Esa tumba contiene “numerosos hallazgos”, explicó, como objetos funerarios, como dos sarcófagos, estatuas y unas 1.000 estatuillas de madera, cerámica o arcilla, denominados “ushebtis”.

Esta necrópolis, situada entre el Valle de las Reinas y el Valle de los Reyes, estaba destinada a los nobles y altos responsables de los círculos cercanos a los faraones.
